Explore, Explain, Engage is a course designed to enhance students’ essay writing skills in order to effectively communicate factual information in real-world contexts. Through various writing exercises and assignments, students will develop their ability to research, critically analyze information, and present their ideas in a coherent and well-structured manner, preparing them for real-world writing situations they may encounter in college or professional settings.
Additionally, we will cover academic grammar and vocabulary topics to enhance students’ writing proficiency. Students will also explore how responsible use of technology, including AI such as ChatGPT, can be used to support their writing goals.*
Course Objectives:
- Improve students’ ability to write clear and concise informational essays
- Enhance research skills and the ability to gather relevant information from credible sources
- Develop critical thinking skills through analysis and evaluation of information encountered in real-world contexts
- Introduce academic citation methods
- Strengthen organizational skills to present ideas in a logical and coherent structure
- Foster effective communication through writing in real-world settings, such as academic or professional environments
Required Materials:
- All required materials will be provided online.
Learning activities include regular writing to communicate ideas via the discussion forum, videos and multimedia materials to support learning, anonymous peer editing workshops, and weekly participation in live webinars. Weekly webinars are 50 minutes long. Recordings are available for students who must miss a session.
