Introduction to Linguistics

Based on a college-level linguistics survey course, this class introduces teens to advanced language analysis. As students learn more about the various disciplines in linguistics (phonetics, morphology, syntax, etc.) related NACLO problems are introduced. Participation in the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad is entirely optional, but practice problems provide excellent practice opportunities for new students of linguistics.

Completion of Magic Lens 1 or equivalent English grammar or significant foreign language study is required for placement in this class.
