Big History

Big History is a year-long high school social studies course aimed at students ages 12 and up who are ready for work appropriate to grades 9 through 12. It covers 13.7 billion years of shared history, examines the Universe from the Big Bang to modernity, and explores common themes and patterns that can help us better understand people, civilizations and the world we live in. Besides functioning as an introductory world history course, Big History provides an overview of scientific concepts in an historic context, focusing on four major themes: “Thresholds of Increasing Complexity”, “Differing Scales in Space and Time”, “Claims Testing” and “Collective Learning”.
