Magic Lens and Word Within the Word are year-long courses. Students complete the first half of the course during semester 3A and the second half during semester 3B. Students will:

  • review parts of speech, sentence structure, phrases and clauses through videos and stories
  • practice with exciting games and activities
  • review Michael Clay Thompson’s 4-level sentence labeling system
  • compare MCT’s 4-level sentence labeling system to traditional diagramming
  • seek out grammar examples from literature and pop culture
  • create multimedia presentations on grammar topics
  • study word roots and vocabulary in the context of great literature
  • write stories and create presentations with new vocabulary words
  • apply grammar knowledge to sample SAT and ACT questions

Required books:

Grade Level

Appropriate for grades 9 through 12. This is a high school literature course open to students ages 12 and up who are prepared to read and discuss literature at a high school level.

Time Commitment

Most students report spending approximately 3 hours per week on homework outside of the webinar.
