Are you afraid of poetry? Have you ever wanted to read or write poetry, but thought it was too difficult or that there was some sort of secret key you just couldn’t find? You’re not alone. This six-week workshop takes poetry from the ground up—how is reading a poem different from other types of literature? What’s the difference between sonnet and a sestina? How to Read a Poem takes the fear out of poetic language and hands you the key. Students will move from discussing and analyzing poems by writers like Billy Collins, Emily Dickinson, and Walt Whitman to writing their own verses.

Webinars are 50 minutes long. Recordings are available for students who must miss a session or for repeated viewings to provide extra practice and understanding.
